Census: Families With Children More Likely To Live In Detached Dwellings

By Jamil Allouche

The patterns of Victorian’s property purchasing have been mapped by the results of the 2011 census, which shows that there are a number of different factors that can impact a person’s housing decisions.

For example, 77 per cent of Victorians chose to live in detached housing, while 13 per cent resided in flats and apartments. The remaining ten per cent lived in semi-detached housing situations or townhouses.

Furthermore, families with children are far more likely to inhabit detached housing than any other form of property – forming 39 per cent of detached household residents. They also comprise 20 per cent of the semi-detached market and ten per cent of the apartment market.

The reverse is true for single people households – 19 per cent dwell in detached housing, 35 per cent in semi-detached housing and a huge 48 per cent live in apartment units. Couples without children make up 23 per cent of Victoria’s apartment and unit residents.

Regardless of whether you’re a young family looking for their first home or a single person hoping to relocate, the team at Ray White Brunswick can help you find the perfect property in Brunswick to suit your situation.
