Grants for Brunswick Locals Running Festivals and Events

By Jamil Allouche

Grants are being offered by the Moreland City Council, which could help out those living in Pasco Vale or Brunswick property, who also have an exciting event to run.

Moreland City Council announced at the end of January that grants of $3000 and $5000 are available to help with the costs of running community festivals or events.

The Celebrating Place Grants Program is great news for a group looking to run a festival and it may well boost community morale and spirit.

Moreland Mayor Lambros Tapinos said "the festivals and events we envisage will be delivered in areas of the city that have limited arts or community activites provided by council."

The council hopes that the festival will "enrich the social life of the local community and promote activity participation", announced Cr Tapinos.

Real estate in Brunswick and its neighbouring areas is popular for its close proximity to the vibrant CBD, and the initiatives of the Moreland City Council including these grants may further boost community spirit and the desirability of the area as a place to live.

Applications for the grants are now open and will close on March 21. Applicants will need to hold their event before the end of 2014.

Cultural groups in the community may appreciate the chance for extra funding – the council is welcoming applications from all local non profits.
