By Angela Hill

Anyone looking for clean, green Carlton property may be interested to know that the City of Moreland was named the Sustainable City of the Year during the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Sustainable Cities Awards ceremony on Friday (July 26).

The awards ceremony was dedicated to recognising diverse groups and individuals for their commitment to keeping Victoria environmentally sustainable and green.

Ryan Smith, minister for environment and climate change, said in a July 27 statement that the City of Moreland was a great example of sustainability, and as a community they were dedicated to "protecting and enhancing their local environment".

The Moreland council operate a number of initiatives that demonstrate their green attitude. These include Zero Carbon Moreland, a program aimed at heavily reducing the amount of carbon produced from the homes of more than 4,000 participants., and Clean Energy Solution, which helps residents afford to buy solar panels, hot water services and electric bikes through a bulk-buying scheme.
