New app to help tenants with their rental agreements

By Jamil Allouche

A new app released by the Victorian government is set to provide current and prospective tenants with rental information – right at their fingertips. If you're looking into rental property in Carlton, the RentRight app could be extremely useful to ensure you're fully informed before signing the dotted line.

Minister for Consumer Affairs Jane Garrett said the app can make it easier for tenants to stay in touch with their landlord or property manager, as well as having access to a range of information, instantly.

"With a few taps on your phone, you can use the app's email and camera function to send your landlord or property manager a photo of an item that may need to be fixed. RentRight will be particularly helpful to young Victorians, who may be moving out of home for the first time," said Ms Garrett in a 18 March statement.

Features include a rental calendar that provides alerts at weekly, fortnightly or monthly intervals, information about your responsibilities and rights as a tenant, and templates for emails you may need to send as a tenant – including ending your lease and organising repairs or maintenance.

This could be a game changer for tenants looking to empower themselves with information and understand their rights and responsibilities.
