Want a great student city? Rent a house in Melbourne’s Brunswick area

By Jamil Allouche

For those of you looking to rent an apartment in Brunswick, the notion is already made all the more appealing thanks to the city's top-ranking title. Indeed, Melbourne was name the Economist Intelligence Unit's most liveable city in 2013, and then again in 2014.

And that's not where the titles end.

Why students love Melbourne

According to Quacquarelli Symonds' (QS) Top Universities world ranking, Melbourne is the second-best city in the world for students. This puts it ahead of London, Sydney, Edinburgh, Hong Kong and 19 other major cities.

QS recognises seven different universities in the city, and ranks Melbourne University in the top 50 world institutes, coming in 33rd place.

To take full advantage of this fantastic student haven, make sure you move into a rental property in Brunswick, Coburg or surrounds. These suburbs aren't just great for their overall standard of living, but also their proximity to many of the city's amenities. The CBD, for example, is an easy 20-minute drive from central Brunswick, past Princes Park.

Melbourne Zoo makes for a fun experience over the weekend, or an excellent place to learn about animals if that's what you choose to study, and is also next door. It sits adjacent to Royal Park Station, south of Brunswick.

And, of course, for your education itself, Melbourne University is also in the area. The campus is right along Royal Parade, just below the zoo and park, a 10-minute drive or 40-minute walk from Brunswick.

If you look again at the QS Melbourne ranking, it actually beat out the competition in the 'student mix' category. This is thanks to the great cultural diversity found here, as well as the local people's attitude toward, plus their tolerance and inclusion of, foreign students.
